Aflé Bijoux
Aflé Bijoux makes jewellery inspired by the Adinkra symbols of the Akan culture of Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. CodeLeap designed and built the brand's companion app — a searchable catalogue of 130 symbols, their meanings and their original Twi proverbs — and launched it on iOS and Android, with the development phase done in under a month.
What we did CodeLeap designed, built and launched 'Adinkra by Aflé Bijoux' — the jewellery brand's iOS and Android app cataloguing 130 Adinkra symbols — with the development phase done in under a month.
130 symbols, one app. Every piece in Aflé Bijoux's Adinkra collection carries a symbol with centuries of meaning behind it — and the brand wanted customers to discover that meaning, not just the jewellery. They partnered with CodeLeap to design and build 'Adinkra by Aflé Bijoux': an app cataloguing 130 Adinkra symbols, each with its meaning and its original proverb in the Twi language, verified against academic sources, with every symbol linking through to the matching piece in the collection. We designed it in the brand's gold-and-black identity, built it in React Native for phones and tablets, and took it through both app stores.
What we built
-
130 symbols, properly sourced
The app catalogues 130 Adinkra symbols of the Akan culture, each with its meaning and its original Twi proverb — content verified against academic sources, so the cultural record is as considered as the jewellery it sits beside.
-
Search by name or meaning
A custom search lets people find a symbol by its name or by what it means, so the catalogue works whether you know the symbol or only the idea — and each result links through to the matching piece in the collection.
-
Brand-led, accessible design
We designed the app in the brand's gold-and-black identity — recolouring and processing around 130 client-supplied symbol images, plus splash screens, app icon and store graphics — checking colour contrast against WCAG guidelines so elegant never came at the cost of readable.
-
Built and launched in weeks
The development phase took under a month, in React Native for iOS and Android, phones and tablets. When an unusual App Store review complaint arrived after submission, we resolved it and released — roughly five weeks from kick-off to launch, end to end.
Why this matters to you:
The app gave Aflé Bijoux more than a marketing channel — a piece of cultural preservation its customers could hold, with every symbol pointing back to the collection. Launched on both stores within weeks of kick-off, it showed what a small, fixed-scope build can do for a brand: one clear idea, shipped fast and finished properly.
