Healthcare software and fitness apps that stick

Healthcare software development for clinics and health startups; fitness apps like the AI coach we built for a leading UK protein brand. Built for the second week, not launch day.

Solutions we've built power teams at:

  • Amazon Web Services
  • Auto Trader
  • Cedars-Sinai
  • Jet2holidays
  • Jaguar Land Rover
  • Dover Street Market
  • Dexters
  • Lookers

Software we build for health, fitness and wellness brands

Whether you run a clinic, a studio, a startup or a consumer brand, the hard problems repeat — engagement, admin, community safety and health data. These are the four we build for most.

  • AI coaching and personalised plans

A conversational coach that learns each user's goals and adapts nutrition and training plans as they progress. We built exactly this for one of the UK's leading protein brands — turning a one-off product purchase into a daily touchpoint with its customers.

  • Booking, payments and client admin

Custom scheduling, invoicing and payments in one place, so trainers and practitioners stop juggling texts and chasing payments. We designed and built Simple PT's booking and wallet app end to end, shipping the MVP to iOS and Android in two months.

  • Creator and community platforms

Platforms where health and wellbeing creators publish, grow a following and earn through subscriptions — and where vulnerable communities stay safe. We designed and built Udokk end to end across iOS, Android and web, and Hurdl, which matches people who've faced similar mental-health challenges.

  • Clinical tools and at-home testing

Patient apps and clinician dashboards that stand up to clinical scrutiny. We built computer vision that reads a colour-change medical screening test from a phone photo — later adapted for a multi-year university clinical study — for a UK medical diagnostics company we can't name under NDA.

Health, fitness and wellbeing work

Three of our health, fitness and wellbeing builds: an AI-graded training app covering 550+ moves, an AI nutrition and workout coach for one of the UK's leading protein brands, and a computer-vision app that reads a medical screening test and was adopted into a university clinical study. More — Simple PT, Udokk, Hurdl, The Frida Project and others — are on the portfolio.

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears

An AI training app for Blood, Sweat & Tears, a London Lagree studio and training brand — digital flashcards and AI-graded quizzes that help instructors and students master the Lagree method.

What our clients are saying

Real reviews from clients we have delivered for, on Clutch and elsewhere.

  • The enthusiasm, understanding of our mission, and passion from the first few minutes of the call were the deciding factors in choosing CodeLeap. Within 3 months of our app launching, we had over 1,500 downloads, appeared in leading publications from Forbes, The Metro, Marie Claire, Women's Fitness and many more, and started raising further investment.
    Charlie CEO, Becon
  • They are incredibly diligent in the quality of work they produce, and go above and beyond when it comes to solving issues faced within the project, and to ensure we meet strict project deadlines. You never feel like you are one of many clients, and they ensure they are always there to help with any need you have, no matter how big or small.
Amelia Parmiter Marketing Manager, AWS - Marble
  • CodeLeap made me feel like my options were limitless in terms of what could be achieved, which was critical to me as we were creating something very unique. I'm glad I chose Codeleap over a large corporation as the personable approach resulted in a smooth and pleasant experience.
    James CEO, Bearable
  • Working with CodeLeap was a very good experience from both a professional and personal point of view. These people know what they are doing and are both efficient and clever and made a good partner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend CodeLeap.
    John CEO, Neurometrics-Diab
  • CodeLeap adds so much value and goes above and beyond what I expected. CodeLeap's team is very flexible with all the different requests we've put in front of them. They've also been great with the whole business side of things, and being able to forecast for this industry is really helpful. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with their work — they've been incredibly helpful.

Everything you might want to know before starting a project with us.

  • Health data is special category data under UK GDPR, so we design for it from the start: collect the minimum needed, ask for explicit consent, encrypt data in transit and at rest, and scope access to the people who genuinely need it. And because you own the code and IP outright, you decide where the data lives — you can host it wherever your regulatory obligations require, with no dependency on us.

  • Yes — where the product genuinely needs it, we build against Apple HealthKit, Google's Health Connect and wearable APIs, so steps, workouts, heart rate or sleep flow into the app instead of users re-typing them. The honest caveat: syncing data nobody looks at adds cost and privacy surface for nothing. If a wearable feed won't change what your app does for someone, we'll say so before you pay for it.

  • Design-and-prototype work starts from £5,000 — enough to put something clickable in front of real users — and full app builds start from £15,000, with a typical build taking around three months. Every project is scoped and agreed at a fixed price before work starts, so there's no meter running. And the price buys the product outright — on final payment the app, its code and the IP transfer to you.

  • It depends on what it does. Fitness tracking, coaching and general wellbeing content usually don't; software that screens, diagnoses or informs treatment decisions can fall under UK medical device regulation, which changes how it must be built and evidenced. We raise this at scoping, not mid-build. We've worked at the regulated end — the computer-vision screening test reader we built was adopted into a multi-year university clinical study — but for a definitive classification, start with the MHRA's guidance.

  • By designing the product around week four, not day one. In practice that means plans that adapt when someone misses a session rather than piling on guilt, notifications tied to real progress, and content that changes as the user does. The AI coach we built for one of the UK's best-known protein brands works this way — its plans adjust as each user's goals and progress change, so there's still a reason to open the app in February.

  • By designing moderation in from the start, not bolting it on after an incident. That means reporting and blocking tools, careful matching, and human moderators with the access they need. We've built this twice: Hurdl, which pairs peer matching with in-app reporting and careful human moderation, and The Frida Project, our own venture, which put a licensed therapist at the head of every small support group.
