Hurd
Kite Insights wanted to turn everyday jobs into a route to climate action. CodeLeap built and continues to develop Hurd — a cross-platform app that gives employees free micro-learning, anonymous employer reviews and a community to push sustainability and inclusion forward at work.
What we did CodeLeap built and now maintains Hurd for Kite Insights — the iOS, Android and web app and its Django backend on AWS — from micro-learning and employer reviews through localisation, releases and ongoing fixes.
Kite Insights has spent over a decade teaching the workforce about climate and sustainability. They wanted to reach people where change actually happens — inside their own organisations — and give any employee, at any level, a practical way to act. The challenge was doing that at scale, for free, across mobile and web. They partnered with CodeLeap to build Hurd: an app pairing micro-learning with anonymous employer reviews and a community, and to keep developing it release by release.
What we built

Cross-platform mobile experience
Hurd works across iOS, Android and the web, so employees can learn, review and join in wherever they are. One Django backend keeps content, profiles and activity in sync, giving people the same experience on every device.

Micro-learning library
Short, jargon-free lessons cover everything from climate anxiety to making a business case for sustainability, with new modules added regularly. Employees learn at their own pace and build the confidence to raise these issues at work.

Community and anonymous reviews
People can anonymously review and rate their employer, share what has worked, and connect with others pushing for the same change. It turns individual frustration into a collective, visible signal that organisations can't easily ignore.

Multi-language localisation
CodeLeap built a translation system across the app and web so lessons and interface adapt to each user's language. Employees around the world learn in their own language, extending Hurd's reach well beyond English speakers.
