Bonsai

A UK fintech founder set out to make good financial planning affordable to the people traditional advice never reaches. CodeLeap is the team that builds and ships Bonsai — the cross-platform app that brings planning, guidance and everyday money into one place.

What we did CodeLeap is the product development team that builds and ships Bonsai's cross-platform wealth and financial-planning app.

Bonsai — Mobile app case study Wealth planning, made simple.

Bonsai's founder came from the advice world, where good financial planning stays slow, costly and out of reach for most people. He set out to build an AI-native app that makes it affordable and puts it in everyone's pocket. CodeLeap is the development team behind the product: we build and release the mobile app across Android and iOS, ship features sprint by sprint, and run the QA that keeps each version steady as the product grows.

What we built

  • Cross-platform mobile app

We build and ship Bonsai's app for Android and iOS from one React Native codebase, releasing new versions each sprint and running the QA cycles that keep every release stable across devices.

  • Planning tools and projections

Financial calculators, goals and projections help people see where their money stands and what to do next — the core planning features that turn Bonsai from an idea into something people can actually use day to day.

  • Open banking connections

We connect the app to people's bank accounts through open banking, so planning can draw on real balances rather than figures typed in by hand, and built it to move cleanly between providers as the product's regulatory position settles.

  • Freemium tiers and premium features

We built the freemium model — subscription tiers, premium feature gating and the payment flow behind them — giving Bonsai a free tier to bring new people in and a paid path to earn from the ones who stay.

Why this matters to you:

For Bonsai, CodeLeap is the engineering behind the product — a team that turns each idea into a shipped feature and keeps the app moving across both platforms. That lets a small fintech release like a much larger one, and put planning that once meant an appointment and a fee into an app people can use on their own.
