The Frida Project
Before CodeLeap built products for clients, it built and launched its own. The Frida Project — a mental-health startup founded by a member of our own team — gave people support from professional therapists inside small online groups. We designed it, engineered it end to end, and had the MVP live on iOS and Android in under 3 months.
What we did CodeLeap designed, built and launched The Frida Project as its own venture — the React Native apps, the Django backend and the programme content engine — shipping the MVP to iOS and Android in under 3 months.
Support groups, therapist-led. The Frida Project was our own venture, founded within the CodeLeap team — so there was no client to hand things to, and nowhere to hide. The product matched people into small, private support groups of five, each led by a licensed therapist, and paired the trust and anonymity mental-health support demands with the engagement of a social product: a newsfeed of shared experiences, and structured learning programmes — coping with anxiety, imposter syndrome, bereavement — released daily into each group by its therapist. We designed the whole experience, built the apps and the backend, and launched the MVP in under 3 months.
What we built
-
Therapist-led support groups
Small private groups of five people, matched by shared challenges and each led by a licensed therapist who draws participants into the conversation — professional support and peer understanding in the same safe, anonymity-respecting space.
-
A programme content engine
Therapists scheduled daily learning materials into their groups — richly illustrated slide sequences with activity tracking. The programme structure lived server-side in Django rather than hardcoded in the app; the slides themselves we designed in-house.
-
A social feed tuned for support
A newsfeed where members posted experiences, commented and responded with emotive reactions — the mechanics of a social network, deliberately re-tuned so the currency was understanding rather than attention.
-
Engineering built to ship fast
One React Native codebase for iOS and Android, over-the-air updates through CodePush so fixes skipped the app-store queue, and continuous integration with automated store releases — the setup that made a sub-3-month MVP possible.
Why this matters to you:
The Frida Project launched on both stores, and our own marketing at the time reported an average 4.9-star App Store rating and thousands of users reached. The startup has since closed and the app is off the stores — ventures end, and we'd rather say so than quietly drop it from the list. What it left CodeLeap is the habit we've kept ever since: design, build, launch and run the whole product, because we'd already done it for ourselves.
