Cicerone
Cicerone, an established publisher of outdoor guidebooks, came to CodeLeap to bring its walking, hiking and cycling guides onto the trail. We designed and built a cross-platform iOS and Android app — GPS routes, offline maps and a digital guide library — and maintain it month to month.
What we did Designed and built Cicerone's cross-platform walking-guide app for iOS and Android — GPS routes, offline maps, in-app purchases and a Shopify-linked customer hub — plus ongoing monthly maintenance.
Cicerone has spent years producing trusted guidebooks for walkers, hikers and cyclists, but its catalogue lived mainly in print. Readers wanted those same expert routes out on the trail, with live location and maps that keep working with no signal. The publisher partnered with CodeLeap to design and build a mobile app, connect it to a Shopify store and in-app purchases, and keep improving it through monthly releases.
What we built
-
Offline GPS routes and maps
Every guide becomes a mapped route with GPS navigation and downloadable offline tiles, so walkers can follow it accurately out on the trail even where there is no mobile signal.
-
Digital guide library and route detail
Readers browse their purchased guides, inspect each route and stage with elevation profiles and points of interest, and check what is nearby before setting out, all kept in one personal library.
-
In-app purchases and Shopify customer hub
Guides bought in the app or through the connected Shopify store unlock automatically in the reader's account, with one hub to manage purchases, formats and downloads across print, ebook and app.
-
One codebase, iOS and Android
A single cross-platform build ships to both app stores at once, keeping features and releases in step and lowering the cost of every future update and monthly maintenance cycle we run.
Why this matters to you:
The app turns a print catalogue into a product people carry on every walk. Guides are easier to buy, keep and follow in the field, purchases flow straight from the store into the app, and one shared platform means new guides and fixes reach every reader at once.
